Palm Leaves

Areca palm plantations shed tons (literally, tons) of large, brittle leaves every season. Because these leaves are considered waste, they are burned by farmers, contributing to air pollution and associated health issues. Our solution allows for the creation of a completely new notebook material, leather-like material made from these shed leaf sheaths. By treating these natural fibres, these leaves are transformed into a clean, malleable material with it’s own unique texture. It pairs beautifully with leather. So, let’s discuss leather.

Natural Notebooks

Leather

Leather skins are a by-product of the food industry. As a by-product of the meat industry, the animal skins are a secondary commodity which, without appropriate treatment, would otherwise be wasted and sent to land-fills. By using all the parts of the animal, we are avoiding unnecessary and additional waste.

As opposed to other textiles and imitation leather which is not durable and is not biodegradable, leather is a natural, organic material, which, with care, can last for hundreds of years but when discarded has a decomposition rate of 25-50 years.

Zero waste plantable seed paper

This innovative new paper is made from post-consumer waste and contains seeds embedded within the paper fibres. When planted, the paper decomposes and the seeds grow.

It was the only option for Gilded Words.

Our handmade, eco-friendly, luxury seed paper has been embedded with wildflower seeds and embellished with biodegradable gold foils . When the paper is planted in soil and watered, the seeds will germinate and grow into UK native wildflowers. These beautiful flowers are our gift to you. Planting them is beneficial to the environment and provide valuable nutrients for pollinators like bees and butterflies.
